to break it down, the rarest hair colors in order are: red, blonde, brown/black.
blonde and red are recessive traits, and it takes at least two zygotes to determine hair color. since brown/black is dominant, graham could easily have been heterozygous (meaning his genes contained 1/2 brown and 1/2 blonde genes). that's why two people with blonde hair can't have brown-haired children, and two people with blue eyes can't produce brown-eyed children, but it works the other way around. because brown is dominant, if it shows up at ALL, the bearer will be a brunette, but they can pass on blonde to their offspring if they breed with someone else who has blonde in their genetic makeup.
